What Is a PHP Program? A Guide for Men Considering Treatment
2026-09-04 · Recovery Republic
A PHP, or Partial Hospitalization Program, is one step below residential treatment in intensity and one step above Intensive Outpatient (IOP). Men attend clinical programming most days of the week for several hours at a time, then return to their own living environment in the evening.
For many men, a men's PHP program is the sweet spot: enough structure and clinical contact to make real progress, without the restrictions of a 24-hour facility. At Recovery Republic, our 90-day PHP runs five days a week and combines individual therapy, process groups, psychiatric support, recovery coaching, and outdoor experiential programming.
A typical week includes 20 hours of programming — ten clinical and ten experiential — plus accountability check-ins, drug screening, support-group attendance, and one-on-one coaching. It's designed for men who are medically stable, done with detox if detox was needed, and ready to show up for the work.
PHP is not the right fit for everyone. Men who need 24-hour medical monitoring, detox, or a secured environment usually need a higher level of care first. But for men who can live independently and want intensive treatment during the day, a 90-day PHP program offers real clinical depth without putting life entirely on pause.
If you're considering treatment for yourself or someone you care about, the question isn't just "how intense?" — it's "what level of support matches where he is right now?" Our team answers that question honestly before anyone commits.
